Purpose:

The Council of Yukon First Nations has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to plan, organize and deliver the Yukon Gladue Research and Resource Identification Project .
The Project aims at collecting and analyzing data specific to Yukon's current ability to offer and support non-custodial sentencing options to Aboriginal offenders pursuant to s.718.2e) of the Canadian Criminal Code. The Project will evaluate local efforts to date and provide some statistical context regarding the number of Aboriginal people who could potentially benefit from increased emphasis on non-custodial sentencing options. The Project will also develop materials that will help judges, lawyers, Aboriginal courtworkers and community justice workers in the nine Yukon AJS-supported programs.
