Purpose:

The Recipient proposes to develop and implement a program to provide community based counselling to youth who are involved in, or vulnerable to, gangs. A youth worker will work intensively with these youth as well as their siblings and families to reduce recidivism rates and gang involvement. The project will provide holistic support for families by providing individualized counselling, increasing access to education, training and employment opportunities, providing support for the development or re-establishment of healthy relationships with non-gang involved individuals, especially family members, assistance with substance abuse and/or mental health issues if needed, and support for parents and family members to enhance their abilities and skills to be an active participant in preventing their children from further involvement in criminal activity.
