Purpose:
|
The Government of the Northwest Territories has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to assist with the management of its Community Justice Program. The Community Justice Program will provide funding to communities for Community Justice Committees for restorative justice, victims' services, and crime prevention programming based on each community's objectives and work plans.
The objectives of the Program are to: assist Community Justice Committees in diversion activities; increase networking opportunities; strengthen relationships with stakeholders; support the initiation of programs such as, on the land programs for youth, school visits and reintegration support for offenders, and; foster growth in a manner that continues to address the needs as identified by the Community Justice Committees and Northwest Territories communities overall. There are established Community Justice Committees in 32 communities in the Northwest Territories.
