Purpose:

The Beardy's & Okemasis Band #96 & #97 has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to deliver the Beardy's & Okemasis First Nation Community Justice Program. The Program facilitates diversion and mediation programming as an alternative to the mainstream justice system for adults and youth. A Traditional Justice Committee and Elders provide guidance and support to the Program which utilizes victim offender mediation, family group conferencing, sentencing and releasing circles. The Program works to educate and raise public awareness on restorative justice and reintegrating community members being released from custody back into the community.
