The Wet'suwet'en Treaty Office Society has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Wet'suwet'en Unlocking Aboriginal Justice Program. The Program provides prevention, pre and post charge diversion, alternative measures, sentence advisory, rehabilitation and victim support within the Wet'suwet'en territory, and Gitxsan nation. The Program allows the community to assume greater responsibility for the administration of justice, and assists the justice system to improve its relevance and effectiveness with First Nations communities. This is accomplished through regular meetings with the Elders Advisory Board, protocol development with local justice agencies, cultural activities, workshops and training, as well as conflict resolution and support agency referrals.
