Purpose:

The Mi'kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Aboriginal Justice Program. The Program delivers diversion and alternative justice measures to all Aboriginal people in the province of Prince Edward Island working with communities and service organizations to create a system that provides offenders with access to traditional justice methods, such as sentencing circles. The Program also works to promote understanding between Aboriginal people and the mainstream justice system through information sharing.
