Aboriginal Legal Services of Toronto Inc. has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to operate the Community Council Program. The Program is a criminal diversion program for adult and youth Aboriginal offenders. The Program diverts Aboriginal offenders from the mainstream system and brings them before members of the Community Council. The Community Council develops a plan by consensus that allows the offenders to take responsibility for their actions, address the root causes of their problems, and reintegrate into the community in a positive way.
