Purpose:
|
This project will use a Canine Assisted Intervention Approach to work with youth who are involved in the criminal justice system and who are involved in, or at risk of being involved in, gang activities in the Guelph area. This project will have multiple community partners working as mentors for the youth while teaching them the basics of K9 Search and Rescue. Along with developing search and rescue skills which could lead to future volunteer/job opportunities, youth will have the opportunity to develop relationships with strong, positive role models and mentors such as Fire Fighters, Police Officers, Probation Officers, and other pro-social youth mentors. The organization plans to work with 50 to 80 youth, age 12 to 17, over the next three years.
