The organization will explore how the British Columbia Aboriginal Justice Council (AJC) can promote the development of laws, legislation and policies for Aboriginal victims of crime; increase knowledge and awareness of the impact of victimization by the justice system, and create new pathways to address the needs of victims of crime through the development of culturally meaningful services, assistance and programs based on legislative equality. The project will also develop avenues by which the AJC can work in partnership with government agencies and stakeholders to provide Aboriginal leadership opportunities to influence changes in the justice system to account for and address the reasons why Aboriginal people experience high levels of violence.
