Purpose:
|
The organization will pilot enhanced, trauma-informed support for victims of sexual assault in BC. The pilots will be launched in three BC communities, with an emphasis on Indigenous women: one small and entirely First Nations community, one urban community, and one blended community. The project will entail specific training for lawyers and Indigenous/Community support workers on the issue of sexual assault and trauma-informed practice, and the delivery of up to 5 hours of independent legal advice for victims and survivors as well as longer-term access to a trained Indigenous/community support person. The purpose of the pilot project is to improve access to justice through the criminal justice system for adult victims, and enhance the criminal justice system response to sexual assault in BC.
