Purpose:
|
Ontario proposes to undertake Aboriginal-specific initiatives targeted to deliver culturally-relevant victim services that addressed the critical needs of Aboriginal victims in northern and remote Ontario communities. Specifically, Ontario will establish an integrated victims services for Aboriginal communities, expand court-based victim services for Aboriginal victims and pilot practical solutions to safety/security issues for Aboriginal victims and witnesses in court proceedings. Through these activities, the province will be able to maintain and strengthen linkages between Aboriginal victims, their communities and the justice system in northern Ontario.
