This pilot project will draw from the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award curriculum to deliver programming to youth, aged 12-17, involved in the justice system and in gang activities. Over the course of the project, programming will be offered to youth who are in custody or under community supervision in Calgary, Edmonton, Yellowknife and Iqaluit. The programming curriculum will be based on four component areas: community service, skills development, physical activity and outdoor adventure journeys, all of which contribute to building pro-social skills, positive relationships as well as self-esteem through a sense of achievement. This project will help youth by creating opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration into their communities.
