Purpose:
|
The Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre in Thompson, Manitoba, will develop and implement a three-year pilot project entitled "Second Chances for Youth" in order to reduce the number of Indigenous youth involved in the court system. The project aims to provide a more culturally appropriate diversion approach for dealing with less serious offending through the delivery of Youth Justice Circles based on the Seven Sacred Teachings. A program coordinator and a family support worker will be hired to ensure that approximately 150 youth will have all the resources and supports necessary to complete their agreed upon restorative measures and help the youth understand the impact of their actions.
