The Government of Nova Scotia will work collaboratively with five provinces and territories (Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Yukon) to support the development of a framework that can accelerate the use of restorative justice in the criminal justice system. The project will undertake three crucial activities: a collaborative learning conference in partnership with system and community stakeholders, including representatives from Indigenous organizations, restorative justice agencies, victims services, correctional services, academia, legal aid, police and public prosecution; launch a qualitative research project with participating jurisdictions examining restorative justice practices; and, develop a business case for a comprehensive information management system. Throughout the project, Nova Scotia will seek opportunities to engage with members of FPT working groups on restorative justice and data collection.
