The Old Crow Justice Committee (OCJC) operates a pre- and post-charge diversion program for the 300 residents of Old Crow. The Justice Committee is comprised eight members and has adopted an incremental approach to the development and implementation of justice initiatives.
Initially, the OCJC will address matters that fall under the Old Crow Liquor Prohibition Regulation or the Motor Vehicle Act or minor offences. This gives focus to the program while allowing members to become trained in the area of post-charge diversion and gradually evolve to other community-based justice processes.
An offender charged under the Regulations must pay a fine to the Old Crow Human Development Fund. The fine money from this fund is used for healthy community or individual initiatives. Pre-charge diversion requires the consent of the victim.
