Purpose:

Elsipogtog Band Council of New Brunswick developed an alternative justice program. A community justice committee made up of 15 members oversees the program. The Committee members represent the full spectrum of internal agencies, services and programs, as well as community members (Elders, youth and woman). Committee members are called upon to provide recommendations to Chief and Council regarding justice issues and to inform the larger community of Elsipogtog about the development and implementation of the restorative justice initiative. Services currently being provided include those associated with diversion activities, alternative measures and sentencing circles.
