Purpose:

Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) operates a pre- and post-charge diversion program for ten of its thirty First Nation communities. The total population served is almost 65,000. The program marks a return to traditional ways of dealing with wrongdoing in First Nation communities.
The program, based on the First Nations Justice Strategy has two components: the magistrate’s court and the local justice organization.
