Purpose:

The Makivik Corporation has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Justice of the People Program. The program has two components: 1) it authorizes Justices of the Peace (JPs) to issue search and arrest warrants and to release detainees on a promise to appear (JPs work closely with community justice committees); and 2) it is comprised of community justice committees that offer mediation, alternative/extrajudicial measures and community sentencing programs for adults and youth.
