Purpose:
|
The FSIN Justice Secretariat develops and provides a coordinated policy approach on behalf of FSIN members and Tribal Councils. The activities of the Secretariat are broad and comprehensive. In addition to acting as a liaison between First Nations, Tribal Councils and all levels of government, the Secretariat provides policy and program advice on alternative measures programs such as sentencing circles, justice of the peace courts, community corrections, community justice committees, mediation models and family group conferencing.
The Secretariat is working on developing sentencing circle protocols, peacemaker tribunal legislation and an FSIN community justice employment and training package. It is also developing a FSIN Police Management Board training package as well as a FSIN / RCMP protocol for on-reserve chase and arrest.
