Purpose:

Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corp. has a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to operate the Restorative Justice Program. The Restorative Justice Program provides pre- and post-charge diversion through the Community Accountability Conferencing model to 26 communities within the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation across Northern Ontario. The primary objectives of the program are to: give the community more empowerment over crime and its resolution by diverting specific criminal offences to the Community Accountability Conferencing; make offenders accept responsibility for their actions; and provide collective support for the victim.
